Senior Buyer, Ballsports (Football, Basketball, Golf, Tennis) - all genders:

As a Senior Buyer in the Ballsports category, you will lead a driven and high performing team Your natural passion for team leadership and people development shines through on a daily basis, alongside being able to demonstrate expert communication & motivation.

With these skills, you will guide a talented buying team with decades of combined experience to develop themselves into future leaders.


From a business perspective, you will work alongside Buying leadership to develop an assortment strategy for the dedicated Ballsports business unit.

You will analyse & understand the macroeconomic interdependencies of the Sports industry between brands, product and consumer trends and derive the right strategic implementations for the portfolio and assortment mix; in line with exceeding given financial targets.

You will also be part of the onsite experience improvement process in cooperation with internal stakeholders in order to drive authenticity and credibility for Sports on Zalando.

You will be motivated by the ambitious goals, dynamic e-commerce environment, brand management, and complex negotiation topics.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING):

  • Develop the careers of future Sports leaders by shaping strategic understanding and functional knowledge on an individual basis.
  • Provide mentoring across the Buying teams (Sports & other portfolios) to develop the careers of future buying leaders.
  • Change the shape of the sports retail landscape in Europe through bold & progressive approaches that make us uncomfortable
  • Shaping the strategy and creative direction for the Ballsport business unit, while taking into account the big picture: Zalando strategy, consumer & market trends and the competitive landscape.
  • Negotiating with sports brands for Zalando whilst continuously building positive relations with our existing suppliers across both wholesale and platform business models.
  • Showing strong command of retail/buying KPIs to monitor and review the Unit performance in order to make bold inseason trade decisions. Collaborating with the Merchandising team to plan seasonal budgets and OTB.
  • Always challenging and evolving your business to support our company strategy, whilst inspiring brands to take next steps in their Zalando journey.
  • Working cross functionally with other departments including Content, Customer Analytics, Social Media, and Supply Chain Logistics to drive business impact and exchange in best practices.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF (a blend of expert knowledge and continued learning is preferred)**:

  • Minimum 3 years' of leadership experience, role modelling the Zalando Founding Mindset
  • Minimum 5 years' experience linked to the management of Sports product (example: buying, merchandising, assortment planning), ideally having worked with international brands
  • Negotiation is in your blood, and you are a confident communicator with suppliers and other stakeholders.
  • Proven track record delivering exceptional results in regards to assortment planning, brand management and strategy building/implementation
  • Excellent analytical skills, knowledge in MS Office (especially Excel) and combining the passion for numbers with sports and trends
  • You display a collaborative work ethic, with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong partnership with the Planning team (direct counterparts), to support and develop the large basic assortment of the unit
  • Quick thinking and entrepreneurial attitude, which also means you can clearly prioritise in a fastpaced environment.
