Beschreibung

Conduct a European economic appraisal of coastal adaptation options including hard options (e.g., dikes, surge barriers), nature-based solutions (e.g., coastal wetland restoration), household-level adaptation (e.g., flood proofing buildings) and retreating from the coast.


  • Develop suitable coastal adaptation pathways for specific sectors and/or world regions.
The work will build upon the existing global integrated modelling framework DIVA, which assesses the impacts of sea-level rise, extreme events and coastal adaptation on coastal erosion (Hinkel et al. 2013), coastal flooding (Hinkel et al and coastal wetlands (Schuerch et al The work will entail close collaboration with other scholars working on modelling the biophysical and socioeconomic impacts of sea
- level rise and extreme events, both within GCF as well as within other European institutes.


Requirements:


  • An excellent Master degree in economics or related economic fields such as environmental or resource economics
  • Excellent command (oral and written) of English (the language of the PhD thesis)
  • A good command of a major programming language (e.g., Python, R, Julia)
  • Familiarity with costbenefit analysis, econometrics, optimisation methods, analysis and probability theory
