ABOUT THE TEAM

The HANA Database Campus team organizes the work with students and the research activities within the HANA & Analytics teams.

THE ROLE

Context of the project
JSON is a ubiquitous format in databases and the cloud.

Ingestion of JSON data most often requires parsing from a string to a binary in-memory representation (Langdale, 2019; Li, 2017) and indexing of the result for high-performance query processing.

This can quickly become a bottleneck due to the large amount of data handled nowadays.

At the same time, FPGAs show promise in accelerating document workloads, like XML processing (Dai, 2010; Sidhu, 2013), but, to the best of our knowledge, have not yet been applied to JSON processing.

Goal of the project
This work will aim at building an FPGA-based JSON parser with indexing capabilities.

Tasks for the student

  • Implement JSON parsing on FPGAs
- (Extend JSON parser with indexer)

  • Write a technical report about the outcomes of the research

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Student (f/m/d) at a university or a university of applied sciences
  • Preferred fields of study: Computer science or electrical engineering
  • Prior experience in FPGA programming (beneficial)
  • Strong system level programming skills (e.g., C / C++) #Workingstudent #Werkstudent #Internship #Praktikum #Thesis #Germany #Deutschland #Student #HANADatabaseStudent_
