Foster is a Nasdaq listed PLC, operating out of headquarters in Pittsburgh PA, with operations across North America, Brazil, China & the UK.

The company provides rail, construction, and energy markets with innovative solutions to build and maintain their critical infrastructure. L.B. Foster's UK business has operations in Sheffield, London, Nottingham, Telford, Lincoln and in Herne, Germany.

The business provides technology-based services and solutions for Telecoms, Fire Management, Automation & Materials Handling, Electrical Wiring & Control Rooms and Digital Display.

We serve a range of blue chip customers across markets such as Rail, Defence, Retail, Leisure, Manufacturing, Power Generation and Airports
We support flexibility in the workplace and have adopted a virtual working approach for most of our office-based roles.

We ask employees to be present in the office to suit their role and the task/team they are engaged with.

As part of our continuing growth we are looking to expand our Sales Team by appointing an experienced External Sales Manager to further expand our sales in Europe.

A key customer facing role within our Rail Technologies Team based across the DACH region.


Indicative Responsibilities Include:


  • Achievement of sales targets, profit and growth for designated customers and territories
  • Understand, articulate and sell LB Foster's range of solutions to new & identified customers
  • Maintenance and development of account plans for all new & targeted customers
  • Attending and preparing quarterly operational reviews with key clients and LB Foster team
  • Delivering gold standard customer satisfaction to support retention and growth
  • Working with the Project Delivery teams to ensure all customers' requirements are delivered upon
  • Strengthening LB Foster's DACH Account Management and Engineering teams in providing responses to RfPs, RfQs, and ITTs alongside technical customer support
  • Working closely with management across the Division to identify opportunities for growth
  • Provide relevant market intelligence and insight for DACH region to support growth plans
  • Assist senior management with regular reports including forecasting, customer reporting and market intelligence
  • Maintain accurate pipeline via CRM
  • Maintaining an awareness of projects and opportunities among global OEM vehicle builders, third party consultants and rail system operators across the DACH region

Skills & Experience Required:


  • Proven & demonstrable history of selling into the German Rail Industry desirable
  • Knowledge of Italian desirable
  • Experience of prospecting for new business and account management of existing business desirable
  • Delivery of pricing proposals for technologybased solutions
  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience with strong negotiation & closing skills
  • Bachelor's degree desirable
  • Professional presentation style, proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Willingness & ability to travel regularly within Country with occasional travel to other LB Foster sites.
  • Full driving licence necessary.
  • Selfstarter with ability to work autonomously
  • Strong English language speaking & written skills
