The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government.

AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.

Background

Tasks
Within a multidisciplinary, multifunctional team you will be responsible for the following tasks

  • Coaching, counselling, supporting conflict management of postdocs and their respective linemanagers.
  • Maintaining and updating a specific training program for postdocs and their linemanagers (together with the PhD Office)
  • Developing and maintaining a strong network between postdocs and employers outside academia
  • Establishing and maintaining an active network with our alumni postdocs
  • Data management: collecting and supplying data for internal and external use
  • Strengthening connections between AWI's high school cooperation HIGHSEA and PROCEED through suitable measures

Requirements:


  • Master's Degree and PhD in natural sciences with own postdoc experience
  • Extensive supplementary training as systemic coach (minimum of 150 hours of training) completed with certificate and relevant coaching experience
  • Strong field competencies in academic science with sound knowledge of the German research landscape of universities and nonuniversity research alliances
  • Background in adult education / university level teaching with the ability to develop, hold and evaluate courses for a given topic
  • Knowledge of the PhD job market outside academia
  • High interest for human resources development within academia shown by concrete work experience in a relevant field
  • Strong communication skills in the languages German and English
  • Proactive and serviceoriented work attitude
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office package (particularly Excel)
  • Ability to work well in a diverse team with a variety of backgrounds
  • Distinguished networking ability
  • Willingness for regular business trips e. g. to AWI sites on Helgoland and Sylt, as well as Potsdam and Oldenburg

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Relevant experience in working with databases
  • A well established network with employers outside academia but in job sectors relevant for our postdocs

This is an unlimited full-time position. It is also suitable for part-time employment. The salary will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federation (Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes, TVöD Bund), up to salary level
