This is a senior role reporting to the Director for Temporal Affairs and acting under the direction of the Area Presidency.

The Area Communication & Publishing Director leads a team of managers, professionals, and volunteer staff that will help the Church communicate clearly and with one voice to all audiences in the Area, thereby assisting the work of salvation and exaltation.


Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the development of longterm planning and identifying key opportunities for the fulfillment of the Area Plan.
  • Increasing the understanding of the Church of Jesus Christ among all of God's children through effective audience understanding and unified communication efforts across the Area.
  • Build and lead the establishment of strategic relationships with key opinion leaders across the Area to help achieve the mission of the Church, strengthen its reputation, and promote religious freedom. This includes government, interfaith and other community leaders from national to local level.
  • Manage the Church's brand and reputation within the Area in alignment with global branding efforts.
  • Develop a team that will help leaders, employees, volunteers, and partners understand audience needs, values and experiences to increase understanding.
  • Ensure a unified and effective publishing and translation approach across all departments.
  • Oversee a unified production operation that includes but is not limited to Print, Video, Animation, Broadcasting, Photography, Social Media and Web Publishing.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterdays Saints.
  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) in business, public relations or a communicationrelated field; fifteen years of professionallevel experience.
  • Proven track record of effective people leadership.
  • Communication, collaboration, and organizational development skills.
  • Experience developing, designing, and executing strategic communication plans.
  • Experience managing organizational brand, reputation, internal communication and/or external media relations.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and processes in a straightforward way to leadership and communication teams at all levels.
  • Extensive experience with a wide variety of communication channels.
  • Strong understanding of public relations and relationship building.
  • Skilled utilizing research methods and strategies to address practical problems.
  • Excellent writing and editing both in English and local languages.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Leadership and management experience with strong people skills.
  • Competency in the use of technology to create, distribute and evaluate content.
