Your tasks and responsibilities:

Enhanced capabilities of a next generation fighter aircraft require powerful, efficient and adaptable jet engines.

The jet engines must be integrated in an overall propulsion system in order to optimize flight performance, fuel consumption, low-observability and secondary power and thermal management.

Therefore, quick and reliable propulsion system models are crucial for the development of innovative aircraft system architectures.


Mission and activities:


Setting up performance models of jet engines for combat aircraft and embedding them in an overall system simulation framework including fuel, secondary power, thermal management and mission analysis.


  • Modeling (0D/1D) simplified propulsion system behavior using commercial tools with established code libraries
  • Defining and modeling interfaces to other aircraft systems
  • Parameter studies and analysis of existing and future propulsion systems with respect to performance on propulsion, overall system, and aircraft level
  • Participation and contribution to regular meetings with multidisciplinary departments
  • Documentation of the developed simulation methods and results

Desired skills and qualifications:


  • Enrolled fulltime student (d/f/m) in the area of aerospace
- / mechanical engineering or an equivalent field of study.

  • Availability for a general familiarization period in the form of an 36 month internship before the start of the Master's thesis
  • Knowledge in the fields of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and aircraft systems
  • Experience in modeling of complex (thermal) systems
  • Experience in scripting / coding
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment as well as selfreliant
  • Fluent in English mandatory and German (Level B2 and upwards) would be a strong plus
