Job Overview:


Personnel needed provide hearing conservation technicians in support of the Army Public Health Center (APHC) at Army Hearing Program (AHP) clinics, hearing conservation clinics, and other locations on Army installations.

Hearing conservation technicians will schedule patients and perform hearing tests, otoscopy, otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and immittance testing, complete periodic range and base camp surveys to ensure proper use of hearing protection and noise abatement strategies, unit and group hearing protection fitting training and education, and perform hearing safety briefings.


Qualifications:


  • Education/Degree: High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Certification: Certificate of completion from an accredited program, offered thru the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) or completion of a certified course within four months after starting employment, required. Army/Tri-Service Hearing Technician Certification, preferred.
  • Current American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Experience: Experience working in healthcare, education or workplace safety preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.). Experience with androidbased tablet PCs and/or smartphones.
  • Organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, techniques and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of how to prepare US Army correspondence preferred.
  • Able to make group presentations using PowerPoint.
  • Able to search and understand Army Regulations especially those pertaining to occupational safety and health and hearing observation.
  • Possess sufficient initiative, interpersonal relationship skills and social sensitivity to relate constructively to a variety of patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to obtain a US Military Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card driver's license.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Schedules patients and perform hearing tests, otoscopy, immittance testing, otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing, complete periodic range and base camp surveys to ensure proper use of hearing protection and noise abatement strategies, medical record review, unit and individual hearing protection fitting and education, and perform hearing safety briefings.
  • Conducts hearing tests in single or multiperson sound booths using DOEHRS-HC.
  • Uses the automated system DOEHRS-HC Manager Module to maintain, compare and report hearing readiness, deployment and hearing conservation program data.
  • Uses boothless audiometers operated using custom software on tabletbased PCs to conduct hearing tests outside the booth and transfer data to DOEHRS-HC.
  • Coordinates hearing conservation activities with Regional Hearing Program Manager, Occupational Health personnel, Unit Hearing Conservation Officers, and supervisors. Perform surveillance of local hearing conservation programs. Coordinate coverage, inspect and complete final reports for the Army Hearing Program Manager.
  • Issues and fits active duty soldiers with appropriate hearing protection.
  • Coordinates the maintenance and calibration of DOEHRS-HC equipment and ensure that uploads to the DOEHRS-HC registry are backedup daily.
  • Assists units in the preparation for command inspections. Performs annual unit level educational training for soldiers. Review afteraction reports for shortfalls and noncompliance with regulations especially DA PAM 40501, Army Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Ensures reporting database is being used to give commanders up to date information on unit readiness and compliance in incorporating data into Medical Protection System (MEDPROS).
  • Be available to provide hearing conservation training and earplug fittings at various locations within their local site installation.
  • Assist Regional Hearing Program Manager or other staff audiologist in performance of virtual health diagnostic hearing readiness evaluations. Perform Military Occupational Hearing Test (MOHT), such as SPRINT (Speech Recognition in Noise Test) IAW AR in synchronous or asynchronous virtual health appointment with audiologist.
