As a tertiary and quaternary level provider of medical care, the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen combines patient-oriented medicine and care, teaching and research at an international level.

The entire spectrum of medical care is provided through 36 specialist departments, 33 institutes and six interdisciplinary units.

Institute for Occupational, Social and Environmental Medicine - Healthy Living Spaces lab - is seeking a

Research Assistant (f/m/d) in the field of the effect of mitigation measures for buildings on well-being and health

The fulltime position (38,5 h./week) starts as soon as possible and is funded for 39 month. The opportunity for a Phd graduation exists.


The Healthy Living Spaces lab aims at the development of innovative approaches to the design of living spaces and buildings, to the analysis of sources of disturbance and to the development and establishment of preventive measures.

The working group sees itself as an inter
- and transdisciplinary link between medical research and relevant research activities in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, natural and social sciences, electrical engineering and information technology.


Project description:


The position is part of European project MULTICLIMACT (MULTI-faceted CLIMate adaptation ACTions to improve resilience, preparedness and responsiveness of the built environment against multiple hazards at multiple scales), which aims to develop tools for supporting public stakeholders and citizens to assess the resilience of the built environment and its people at multiple scales (buildings, urban areas, territories) against locally relevant natural and climatic hazards, and to support them to enhance their preparedness and responsiveness across their life cycle.


Tasks:


Specific tasks include among others:


  • Development and implementation of a longitudinal hybrid field and laboratory study (including data collection, preprocessing and preparation of the Data Management Plan) considering ethics and data protection clearance
  • Model development related to multisensory adaptive mechanisms and health related parameters in work settings
  • Development and implementation of a field study related to the effect of passive and hybrid solutions

Additional appreciated skills and competences are:

  • Knowledge regarding the interaction between humans and buildings with regard to natural hazards on physiological, psychological and/or behavioral reactions
  • An outstanding research interest in interdisciplinary and internationally visible research
  • Independent and accurate work ethic, a strong sense of responsibility, the ability to integrate into a team and project management skills
