Duties:


  • DoDEA official spokesperson for an assigned area (Americas Region) and primary contact with local and national media, educator organizations, and field organizations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and contact with civilian media and military command information outlets throughout DoDEA assigned area.
  • Provide consultation/customer service/support to the senior leaders in the Americas Region HQ Center of Instructional Leadership (CIL); Forward Integrated Support Team (FIST); and Districts/Schools with in the area assigned.
  • Develop, prepare, and provide content to HQ for a DoDEA internal information platform.
  • Provide and update public affairs related content on the public facing DoDEA websites (Web Content Management System
  • WCMS) and social media sites to promote DoDEA operations.
  • Develop and implement social media campaigns to engage and create brand awareness for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Develop written strategic communications/public affairs/marketing plans to disseminate information via print, oral, visual or electronic means to increase awareness/understanding of DoDEA students, schools, administration, policies, and initiatives.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • One year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • You may be required to sign a transportation agreement.
  • You will be required to sign a mobility agreement, be available for worldwide placement, and be willing to rotate to any DoDDS or DDESS location.
  • Individuals hired from the Continental United States (CONUS) and their family members (who are US citizens) are required to obtain Official Passports prior to departure to the overseas area.
  • Duties of this position require the incumbent to obtain and maintain a SECRET Clearance.

Specialized Experience for GS-13:Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled including: Implementing and managing comprehensive Public Affairs program/ initiatives; independently handling a wide range of difficult and complex communication/publication information about the organizations missions and programs; interacting with the organizations leadership, staff, and the general public to assure Public Affairs program effectiveness; and participating in media events, conferences, workshops, training, to include the presentation of approved briefings and/or speeches.

Grade Requirement:

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Education:

  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
  • Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met. Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis. Consequently, host nation medical facilities may be the only care available. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location.
  • Status applicants in their fourth year of an overseas assignment cannot be selected unless a waiver of the 5 year overseas service limitation requirement is approved.
  • Selectees recruited outside the U.S. will have their eligibility for foreign area benefits determined at the time of hire.
  • The initial length of this overseas tour is 36 months.
  • This position is not covered by a bargaining unit.
