In the Laser and Optical Systems department, you will be part of a diverse and experienced team dedicated to the development and implementation of laser beam sources for both industry and science.

Join our team We are currently seeking a highly motivated individual to strengthen our team in the modeling and implementation of solid-state amplifiers with pulse energies in the joule range and/or in the field of nonlinear pulse compression.


The solid-state amplifiers are part of a MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) chain consisting of rod, Innoslab, slab, and disc amplifiers based on Ytterbium-based laser crystals.

Beyond optimizing the overall architecture, that combines the specific advantages of various concepts, a key objective is to advance towards higher pulse energies while maintaining average power and laser efficiency.

For nonlinear pulse compression, the spectral broadening in a multipass-cell invented at Fraunhofer ILT is being fundamentally advanced for higher pulse energies, shorter pulse durations, and more compact setups.

The focus of your activities can be tailored to your personal interests, encompassing experimental, technical-constructional, simulation, or administrative aspects.


What you will do

  • Working on publicly funded projects with industrial participation.
  • Planning, constructive shaping, and setup of demonstrators, as well as conducting experiments.
  • Active participation in public representation and the acquisition of new research and development projects on a national and international level.
  • Supervision of bachelor and master theses and students.

What you bring to the table

  • A completed scientific university degree (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.
D.) in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Fundamental experience in the field of laser technology and ultrashort laser pulses.
  • Interest and skills in the modeling and simulation of lasers.
  • Responsible and independent work ethic, high flexibility, and open communication.
  • Excellent language skills in English and good language skills in German.

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD).

The weekly working time is 39 hours.

This position is also available on a part-time basis.
