Who You'll Work With:


  • You will be part of an international team of employment lawyers based in the U.S., Latin America, Asia, and Europe. You will be responsible for providing advice on a broad variety of employment law issues, such as equality and diversity matters, disciplinary topics, hiring, terminations, data protection issues, and other various employment initiatives. You will also be expected to liaise and work closely with colleagues from other functions such as compensation and benefits, human resources managers, staffing and recruiting professionals, etc.
  • McKinsey's Legal Department is a diverse and dynamic team of over 200 lawyers based across 43 countries, which provides a comprehensive legal service to our firm's consultants and support functions throughout the world.
  • You will be based in either Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Cologne, or Munich.

What You'll Do:


  • You will provide counsel on a variety of employment issues such as disciplinary and grievance topics, discrimination and harassment matters, hiring, recruiting, equality and diversity matters, terminations (including role eliminations and reductions in force), secondments, posttermination restrictions, works council matters, disability matters, and various employment initiatives.
  • You will manage McKinsey's involvement in actual or potential employment litigation; advising and supporting internal personnel investigations. Managing and working with McKinsey's outside employment counsel where appropriate.
  • You will also advise on McKinsey's strategic growth efforts, including support on transactions, partnerships with third parties, office openings, and launches of new practices and solutions. Where relevant drafting and negotiating agreements with independent contractors.

Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of employment law experience (with a law firm or multinational corporation), across several European countries; experience in Germany is desired
  • Top academic credentials including professional legal qualification in an EU jurisdiction; an additional master's or similar degree in employment law is a significant plus, as is a German qualification
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills and the ability to draft legal documents
  • Fluency in German (both oral and written) is required; proficiency in other European languages such as Spanish, Polish, or a Scandinavian language will be considered an advantage
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability and willingness to work in a global team as a true team player
  • Ability to work autonomously and partner with HR and other business teams, demonstrating strong prioritization skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Impeccable ethical judgment and a strong business sense
  • Enjoys working in a challenging, fastpaced, dynamic professional services firm
