The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.

We are looking for


Two Student Research Assistants/or one Student Research Assistant and one Research Associate in European Human Rights Law and Policy gn)
part-time basis (10 hours per week)


Your tasks:

  • Support research activities, including
- conducting literature reviews,
- collection, organisation, and coding of primary sources, such as court documents from the European Court of Human Rights and policy documents from Council of Europe organs or human rights organisations

  • Support administrative activities
  • Support organisation and dissemination of project events

Your profile:

  • Strong research skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in human rights, the European Convention on Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe
  • Ability to organise and analyse legal and policy materials in the field of human rights.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel
  • Enrolled as a masters or PhD student in law, political science, or other relevant discipline in a German University.
  • Minimum 12month commitment (a 24month appointment is desirable)
