EMBO is located on the international EMBL life sciences research campus in Heidelberg, Germany.

Your role

As an Administrative Assistant, you will join the EMBO Administration & Finance team, which is responsible for all aspects of the administrative and financial governance of the organization, including accounting, bookkeeping, internal control, the annual financial audits, as well as managing financial and administrative projects

You have

  • Knowledge of:
- office management;
- administration;
- basic financial reporting principles;

  • At least three years' professional experience in administration, finance, controlling or accounting;
  • Solid knowledge of standard office software, especially Excel and Power Point;
  • The capacity to work independently as well as a part of a team in an international environment;
  • A selfmotivated personality and interest in adding value to the team;
  • Fluency in English; good working knowledge of German both orally and in writing;
  • Excellent written and oral communication as well as interpersonal skills.
You might also have

  • General accounting knowledge;
  • Experience in
- working with banking software;
- invoice control;
- experience working with auditors and preparing year-end transactions.

EMBO offers a fixed-term contract of three years for this position, issued through our sister organization, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

Appointments on fixed-term contracts can be extended up to a maximum of nine years in total, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.


  • International applicants_
EMBO and EMBL recruit internationally.

Due to the special status of EMBL as an intergovernmental organization you will not need a working visa but, depending on your nationality, you may need an entry visa.

Once in Germany, we will register you with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from which you will receive a special permit (Sonderausweis) which allows you to work at EMBO, to live in Germany and to travel within the Schengen countries.

Family members are also entitled to the "Sonderausweis".
