The
Leibniz-Institut für Wissensmedien (IWM) conducts research into the acquisition and sharing of knowledge and cooperation with digital media. The institute is a member of the Leibniz Association (Leibniz Gemeinschaft) and committed to international standards of excellent science.

Researcher / PhD Position (M/F/d):

Part-time 75%, fixed term for three years, starting May 2023

within the project "NewOrder - Understanding the erosion of the traditional knowledge order in scientific online discourse and its impact in times of crisis" located in the Everyday Media Lab.

The Everyday Media Lab examines the use of mobile and social media for knowledge-related purposes, either in professional settings or in everyday life.

The project NewOrder is an interdisciplinary project funded by the Leibniz-Association. Together with researchers from Gesis and Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, the project will conduct quantitative studies and computational analyses to examine how the erosion of traditional orders (e.g., preprints vs. peer-reviewed publications) and the blurring of roles in science communication affect trust in science. These effects are studied in context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your task will be to plan, conduct and analyse experiments and (longitudinal) surveys, present the results on national and international conferences and to publish the findings in international journals.

In addition, you will support the administrative management of the lab.

Writing your doctoral thesis on a self-generated research question in one of the research areas of the lab is desired and explicitly supported.
