The Institute of Physics at the Department of Sciences and Mathematics is a research-oriented institute currently coordinating a collaborative research center of the DFG and a LOEWE priority project of the state of Hesse, and contributing to a DFG interdisciplinary graduate school.

Additionally, members of the institute successfully proposed a multitude of grants of DFG, BMBF, and the Volkswagen foundation.

For further strengthening research activities on magnetic thin films a PostDoc position as soon as possible is available in the research group "Functional thin films and physics with synchrotron radiation (Experimental Physics IV)":

Tasks:


  • Development of own research profile with the aim of Habilitation in the realm of nanostructured magnetic thin film systems, for example in the areas of magnetotransport or Hall sensorics, magnetic phenomena in 3D magnetic objects (properties of magnetic layer systems on topographically nonplanar surfaces), antiferromagnetic, ferrimagnetic thin layer systems, magnetic multilayers, exchange bias, hybrid thin film systems composed of dielectrica and magnetic materials
  • Scientific support of the research of the Thin Film Magnetism subgroup:
  • Experimental and theoretical work on the scientific challenges in the subgroup "Thin Film Magnetism", independent preparation of manuscripts for publications
  • Initiating and proposing of thirdparty funded projects and participation in the project administration
  • Maintenance and development of the scientific infrastructure of the research group
  • Continuous screening and analysis of scientific literature
  • Support of the research group's teaching duties: Organization, preparation and teaching of courses within the area of the research group of up to 4 semester hours per week
  • Assistance with administrative tasks, guidance/instruction of student assistants and research assistants, assistance with group organization and procurement tasks

Requirements:


  • Completed course of academic study and PhD in Experimental Physics. The required qualifications must be available by the recruitment date at the latest
  • Substantial publication activities with at least one firstauthorship in a research area relevant to this position
  • Very good expertise in one or more of the relevant research areas of magnetic phenomena in nanostructured magnetic thin layer systems
  • Experience in setting up and operating physical high technology, specifically thin film deposition apparatuses, high vacuum technology, and magnetic characterization techniques for thin film/nanostructurematerials
  • Teaching and science managing experience, experience with supervision of students
  • Very good knowledge of English as well as fluency in writing in English
  • Eagerness for advancing your scientific education in theory and practice

  • Experience in preparing and teaching courses

  • Experienced in: Magnetic characterization methods at synchrotron/FEL facilities (XMCD/XMLD, PEEM, STXM etc.), MOKE and vectorialMOKE magnetometry, timeresolving Kerr microscopy, sputter deposition of magnetic thin film systems, thermal thin film deposition, magnetoresistance measurements, VSM, micromagnetic simulations, Python programming preferentially with AI methods, lithography (E-Beam, optical, 2photon polymerisation lithography)
  • Experience in the creation of PMA multilayer systems with ferro
- and ferrimagnetic coupling or exchange bias layer systems

  • Experience in software development for controlling and data logging of the experimental setups
  • International research experience with a substantial stay abroad
  • Very good organizational abilities, experience in the administration of thirdparty funded projects
  • Good knowledge of German and European research funding institutions
