Beschreibung

The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government.

AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.

  • Data Technician / Data Scientist on Marine Conservation (M/F/d)

Background

Several initiatives are currently underway to establish Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Southern Ocean as part of a global MPA network.

The Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, has been at the forefront of this development by establishing the scientific basis for a Weddell Sea MPA (WSMPA).

At present, the design of the proposed WSMPA is under negotiation at the Commission for Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).

To prepare for the time after the WSMPA adoption, this project will primarily address work on the development, organisation and implementation of a WSMPA research and monitoring plan.

In this context, we offer a position as a data technician/scientist at AWI Bremerhaven, Germany.

The position is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture within the project "Designation and management of a CCAMLR MPA in the Weddell Sea".
