Job Purpose:


Based in Germany and reporting to the Head of TME Branch Legal & Regulatory Affairs, this role within our Legal and Branch management Team of the TME Legal and Compliance function, will support the legal team and ensure we maintain a proactive culture on regulatory matters.

The postholder will be well-organised and proactive, providing timely compliance advice and support.

In doing so, the capability to integrate within the business, engage with stakeholders, as well as provide high quality reporting with a strong attention to detail, will be crucial to success.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Advice on general corporate legal matters and provide oral and written advice and solutions to the business.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contractual agreements.
  • To ensure proper identification and implementation of the TME regulatory framework for insurance activities in Germany, and any other TME branches, where this is needed.
  • To ensure that regulatory requirements are properly understood by all business units and staff therein by way of regular training, the coordination and dissemination of relevant regulatory notifications or association circulars and assisting with the meaningful translation of requirements into business procedures.
  • Be the contact person with the regulatory authorities.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate submission of regulatory filings to local regulators and assist where required with TME Head Office disclosures.
  • Liaise with the branch managers or legal representatives and the business line managers to improve understanding of all the risks in the business.
  • Identifying, reporting, recording, analysing and escalating incidents and breaches.
  • To monitor emerging and developing local regulatory changes within the market, consultation papers and policy statements issued by relevant regulatory authorities and wider international bodies, liaising as necessary with the TME Legal & Compliance team, the TMHCCI Compliance team, on how any such developments may impact TME.
  • To contribute and assist as required in the implementation of the functions activities as per the TME Legal & Compliance Plan.
  • Assist in adhoc projects and tasks as required by Tokio Marine HCC with legal & compliance matters involved.
  • Contributing to regular internal reports for the department.
  • Become the Complaints' Contact Person of TME German Branch.
  • Assist and oversee the performance of external legal counsel representing the company in outsourced matters, including litigations.
  • Attend your local Insurance Association forums.
  • You will be required to travel from time to time to the German offices (Düsseldorf, Munich and Frankfurt) and other Tokio Marine HCC's Offices (Luxembourg, London or Barcelona)

Performance Objectives:


  • Perform a mapping of regulatory requirements and legal obligations applicable to the German branch.
  • Progress and completion of the objectives defined within the TME Legal & Compliance Plan, by way of regular status updates.
  • Ensuring all regulatory filings to local regulators and authorities of the German branch.
  • Identify and regularly interact with key stakeholders.

Essential Skills and
Exp
erience Specification**:


  • Native in German and fluent in English is required.
  • Law degree (Erstes Staatsexamen oder beide Staatsexamina) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with Master of Laws (LL.M).
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably within the German insurance industry.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate a high level of problem solving and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritising tasks appropriately and ensuring that agreed delivery dates are achieved.
  • Experience working in a proactive way, collaborating with colleagues, following up tasks appropriately and keeping the team up to date on activities and progress.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders either facetoface or virtual.

Desirable:


  • Experience in an international company.
  • Proficiency in Dutch or French is a plus
