The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 3 years.

A further employment of 2 years is planned.

The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).

This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.


Unser Profil:


The Institute for Fluid Power Drives and Systems (ifas) at RWTH Aachen University is one of the largest institutes of its kind in the world and is involved in research and teaching in all areas of fluid power.

Today, in addition to mechanical engineering, it also includes disciplines such as thermodynamics, computer science, control engineering, electrical engineering, tribology and chemistry.


Ihr Profil:


  • Completed technical/scientific university degree (Master's or comparable): Mechanical engineering, CES, electrical engineering, physics, computer science
  • Knowledge of information and communication systems
  • Programming or simulation skills
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering, construction and fluid technology desirable
  • Structured work, creativity and interest in learning new topics

Ihre Aufgaben:


The Mobile Machinery Group is concerned with the continuous development of the efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility of fluid power drive systems and associated mobile machinery.

To this end, holistic system approaches are applied using new concepts and technologies from the field of information and communication technology.

This applies equally to the consistent further development and radical rethinking of tried and tested engineering solutions.

Within the scope of your activities, you will deal with a selection () of the following topics:


  • Cyberphysical systems and automated processes
  • Automation and assistance systems, robotics
  • Interoperability and machinetomachine interactions
  • Intelligent data collection and analysis
  • Data processing and analysis through machine learning
  • Environment recognition and sensor fusion
  • Holistic system designs
- (Simulation) model-based development with digital twins

  • Sustainable systems

The general tasks of the research associate include:

  • Working on publicly and industrially funded projects
  • Communicating research results and acquiring new projects
  • Writing publications on research results, research proposals and reports
  • Supporting teaching activities
  • Supervision of student work and guidance of student assistants
