Protein Engineering Biochemistry Scientist, Wuppertal (M/F/d)

Bayer is looking for a highly creative and motivated Bench Scientist Protein Engineering (M/F/d) to join Bayer's Crop Science Division.

In your R&D workplace in
Wuppertal, Germany, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists within the R&D organization and contribute to Protein Engineering of innovative
enzymes. This two-year position will focus on the optimization of CYP P450 enzymes. Located in the Protein Engineering group, you will closely collaborate with
Crop Science colleagues in Germany and the US, as well as with Protein Engineering colleagues from Pharmaceuticals R&D.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Play a handson bench scientist (M/F/d) role in setting up highthroughput compatible biocatalytical processes, including wholecell biotransformations,

for enzyme library screening

Develop analytical methods for use in highthroughput screening (e.g. HTSuHPLC, ELISA, UV/Vis/fluorescencebased)
Perform respective highthroughput enzyme library screens
Characterize enzyme properties and kinetics with biochemical methods
Perform or support genotype/phenotype correlation of functional enzyme variants and the design of enzyme libraries
As project lead, coordinate Protein Engineering work packages across various project team functions, including Screening and Molecular Biology
Provide and exchange experimental results frequently within local and international project teams

WHO YOU ARE

PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or equivalent, with at least 2 years Postdoc experience
Demonstrated competency in biochemistry, enzyme kinetics and cultivation of bacteria and/or yeast
Beneficial: Experience with CYP P450 enzymology, as well as skills in microbiology, biocatalysis and wholecell biotransformation
Demonstrated analytical competencies, in particular in HPLC and biochemical assays (UV-Vis, Fluorescence, ELISA etc.)
Beneficial: Skills in mass spectrometry, protein purification and analytics
Software skills: MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint; Beneficial: GraphPad Prism, Agilent Chemstation, protein structure

software (e.g. PyMOL, Discovery Studio, YASARA)

Beneficial: Demonstrated competencies in rational or semirational enzyme design and / or Structural Biology
Effective presentation and communications skills
Ability to work in multifunctional teams with other researchers and technical assistants as well as external collaboration partners
Fluent in English, both written and spoken

This is a fixed-term contract for 2 years.
