PhD Student (f/m/x) in Microglia Biology in Alzheimer's

Code 1283/2024/2

The Capasso lab is interested in how myeloid immune cells change with age and the impact this has on neurodegenerative diseases.

We are studying proteins regulating immune cell activation and how their loss can affect microglia response to amyloid plaque deposition, a hallmark of Alzheimer's pathology.

One of these proteins is the voltage-gated proton channel HVCN1, expressed by microglia and other immune cells. HVCN1 regulates immune cell ROS production (Capasso et al., Nature Immunology, 2010; Hondares et al., PNAS, 2014; Coe et al., JCI Insight, 2022) and we are investigating the effect of its loss in Alzheimer's mouse models

Your tasks

We are seeking a PhD student with a strong interest in neurodegeneration who wants to study molecular aspect of microglia phenotypes as well as in vivo behavior in preclinical models.
