The Institute of Solid-State Physics at the University of Bremen offers at the earliest possible date a position as
Scientific Assistant (PhD student) (f/m/d)
German pay scale E13 TV-L (75%), limited for 3 years
for the research project
"Thermal transport in photonic semiconductor membranes".Stellenbeschreibung
- and nano-scale. Material growth (e.g., group
- III nitrides and oxides), related processing, and in detail material characterization is commonly undertaken in close collaboration with our research partners at the Institute of Solid-State Physics, which is further supported by a range of international cooperation partners.
To support our research activities, we are looking for a dedicated PhD student, who will not only further develop our present spectroscopy, but will also process required nanostructures by means of focused ion beam and/or electron-beam lithography.
In addition, teaching to the extent of three semester hours (maximum) is required, which will best be linked to the present research field.
The Institute for Solid State Physics seeks to offer an ideal research environment, direct involvement in international research activities, complemented by attractive research facilities.
Voraussetzungen
- A scientific university degree (Diplom/Master/MSc) in physics or electrical engineering, etc., with an average grade better than 2.0 (German system) or B (English system).
- Very good knowledge and relevant experience in at least one of the following fields: Photoluminescence spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, thermal transport measurements, thermal transport simulations, characterization of phononic or photonic crystals, modelling of phononic or photonic crystals, electron beam lithography, focussed ion beam lithography.
- Good programming skills in, e.g., Labview, Matlab, Python / experience with Comsol or similar software packages
- Strong interest in bridging fields of thermal transport and optical characterization. This especially means that after an introductory phase, also own ideas can be developed and finally be implemented in the laboratory. Thus, a creative mindset is needed that strives to go beyond the aforementioned topics and methods. All these just describe some promising first possibilities, but can always be augmented by own ideas forming the basis for future scientific independence (educational aim).
- Good communication and presentation skills, due to cooperation with international partners.
- Very good knowledge of the English language in spoken and written form.
The university is family-friendly, diverse and sees itself as an international university.
We therefore welcome all applicants regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion/belief, disability, age, sexual orientation and identity.
As the University of Bremen intends to increase the proportion of female employees in science, women are particularly encouraged to apply.
