Senior Policy Advisor, Central and Eastern Europe, Berlin

E3G is looking for an experienced and outcome-focused team player to lead E3G's work into Central and Eastern Europe with a focus on accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to renewables in the power sector.

This position will be based in E3G's Berlin office.

Background
E3G is an independent think tank with a global outlook.

We are world leading strategists on the political economy of climate change, dedicated to achieving a safe climate for all.

A transformation to a climate neutral European economy must happen by mid-century if we are to avoid dangerous climate change.

For success of the European Green Deal it is critical to create the political conditions in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries for a deep, whole-economy transformation.

The role will require experience working with civil society, government and business stakeholders and a good understanding of climate and energy politics in the EU and CEE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on E3G's strategy to accelerate and implement the transition to climate neutrality in Central and Eastern in collaboration with other E3G teams, E3G Senior Associates, partners from CEE countries as well as external coalitions such as
    Beyond Fossil Fuels.
  • Monitor developments and wider context of climate and energy politics in CEE and the EU and interpret them in the context of E3G's work.
  • Develop and provide political analysis and thought leadership on climate and energy politics in CEE and act as a focal point and resource within E3G for these issues.
  • Develop and manage stakeholder relationships and collaboration to accelerate the decarbonisation of key sectors in CEE. Convene and manage nonstate actor networks and coalitions from CEE, such as the
    Visegrad+ for Renewable Energy Platform.
  • Advocacy including participation in meetings with external stakeholders such as MEPs, the European Commission, national governments, and civil society organisations, and representing E3G in stakeholder discussions and workshops.
  • Occasional European travel may be required.

Experience and skills

  • You have a good undergraduate degree as well as a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • You have at least 5 years experience and indepth knowledge of climate and energy politics in the EU and CEE. A deep understanding of the political systems of one or several CEE countries would be an advantage.
  • You demonstrate a track record of building and managing stakeholder relationships and coalitions and you are confident engaging stakeholders in government, business, and civil society.
  • You have a track record of problem solving and research. You are able to develop new arguments and strategies through selfled research and evidencebased analysis. You can draw out a clear and compelling story on complex issues.
  • You demonstrate a high level of initiative and you are intellectually curious, outcomefocused, a supportive team player and able to deliver high quality work on time. You are used to operating within diverse teams, with a high degree of cultural sensitivity.
  • You have very strong written communication skills and excellent English.
  • You must have the right to work in Germany and speak German fluently.
