Beschreibung
The University Hospital of Tübingen is a leading center of German university medicine. Every year, around 75,000 inpatients and around 380,000 outpatients are treated. With around 10,000 employees, it is the largest employer in the region. The quality of patient care is certified with the KTQ seal of approval.
The laboratory of Prof. Dr. Mathias Heikenwälder in the newly built, interdisciplinary research institute M3 in Tübingen and DKFZ-University of Heidelberg is looking for a

Postdoc (f/m/d):

Your work will
focus on deciphering novel molecular and cellular mechanisms that control inflammation induced liver cancer and how the latter would affect therapy response - using preclinical mouse models as well as patient material/patient cohorts.

The Research department "Chronic inflammation and Cancer" led by the Director of the M3 (Malig-nome, Metabolome, Microbiome) Research Institute Prof.

Dr. Mathias Heikenwälder - studies the molecular mechanism by which chronic inflammation can lead to the development of cancer.

A major focus of the research is devoted to the question, how high energy diets or alcohol cause the develop-ment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and subse-quently liver cancer (HCC and CCC) and how the immune system modulates theses pathologies.

We finally aim to generate models of chronic inflammation potentially used for pre-clinical research and also engage in clinical trials with patients at the University Hospital Tübingen (UKT).

Thus, we focus on comparative studies of human and animal model tissues, recapitulating human disease on a functional, histo-pathological and pathophysiological level.

We are a world leader in the field of liver cancer, NASH, chronic inflammation, metastasis and immunotherapy (selected publications:
Pfister et al., Nature 2021; Dudek et al., Nature 2021; Conlon et al., Nature 2020; Malehmir et al., Nature Medicine 2019; O ́Connor et al., Cancer Cell 2019; Yuan et al., Cancer Cell 2017; Boege et al., Cancer Cell 2017; Lucifora et al., Science 2014; Wolf et al., Cancer Cell 2014; Wolf et al., Cancer Cell 2012; Haybaeck et al., Cancer Cell 2009).

Your tasks will include:

  • Independent project and experimental planning
  • Supervision and training of a PhD student
  • Work with human tissue specimen and bodily fluids
  • Oral and written presentation of the gained results (presentations, talks, reports, publication in international scientific journals)
  • Taking over responsibilities for team duties
    Your qualifications:
  • Necessary qualifications: PhD in natural science or MD with several years research experience, Felasa B Certificate or equivalent
  • Desired qualifications: Independent functioning, capacity for teamwork, intercultural competence, practical experience in standard molecular and cell biological methods, publication in an international peer reviewed scientific journal
    We provide:

  • A motivated international team

  • An environment that integrates your personal aim and the aims of the laboratory
  • Career development and mentorship
  • A vivid, vibrant and joyful research environment at the highest level
  • Possibility to pursue your research interest in the frame of chronic inflammation and cancer using multiple approaches at highest levelFor informal enquiries, please contact Prof. Dr. Mathias Heikenwälder or visit Division of Chronic Inflammation and Cancer
