Job Description:

As General Counsel you are a strategic advisor to our senior management.

You are providing in-house advice on a range of legal matters and are supporting key internal projects and corporate development.

You will ensure that the company operates within applicable laws and regulations, offer counsel on legal matters arising from new and existing business and facilitate cooperations with external law firms where needed.

Our in-house legal team of lawyers, legal experts, regulatory experts and data privacy experts will be a close support to your role.

Furthermore, you will liaise closely with our compliance and AML officers as well as our regulatory team. Your reporting line will be to the Co-CEO.


Your main responsibilities include:


  • Providing expert and strategic legal advice to senior management
  • Independently managing the organisation's full legal matters
  • Navigating a complex regulatory environment to ensure full compliance while offering innovative, clientcentric products
  • Reviewing and advising on agreements with our people, partners and vendors
  • Supporting the company's corporate development including our regulatory set up
  • Providing clear and actionable legal advice in connection with the introduction of new products and services
  • Drafting and reviewing responses to external parties on complex matters; advise internal stakeholders of contract risks and appropriate resolution strategies
  • Drafting and reviewing, in collaboration with our inhouse legal team, our client documentation as well as other contracts
  • Anticipating issues and estimate risks strategically
  • Liaising with outside counsel regarding your assignments
  • Supporting shareholder and board relations
  • Overseeing and managing all legal matters related to our debt and equity financing
  • Attracting, developing and retaining talent
While many of your responsibilities are of strategic nature, we operate in a fast-paced capital markets environment which will from time to time require decision-making and providing advice on time critical matters


Qualifications:


  • Several years of professional experience in a law firm or in an inhouse legal department, ideally in the field of capital markets, banking, fintech or financial services
  • Deep understanding of financial markets laws and regulations, applicable consumer laws and regulations, data privacy and corporate law (German and European)
  • Experience in working closely with senior management
  • Experience in liaising with supervisory authorities (BaFin and/or other EU regulators) and central banks (ECB, Bundesbank or institutions in other members states)
  • Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks due to deep functional knowledge and expertise in the financial services industry
  • Ability to build, maintain and strengthen relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (including regulators) with the ability to act as deputy for senior management
  • Strong communication skills (German and English) with the ability to convey complex concepts concisely and understandably, both in written and verbal form
  • Organisational talent and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • B2C, B2B2C and B2B experience through work or advise
  • FinTech and/or Startup experience
  • Private equity and/or venture capital experience
  • Intellectual property and/or litigation experience
  • Public policy work (drafting or commenting on proposals for new laws or regulations on a national or European level)
  • Other languages such as Dutch, French, Italian or Spanish
