Your role

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Collecting, evaluating and processing data for cryo-CLEM and cryo-ET tomography projects, including in situ analysis of cryo-FIB milled cellular lamellae.
  • Ensuring smooth running of the instrumentation, interacting with service engineers and maintaining/developing microscope hardware and software infrastructure at an advanced level.
  • Introducing and training new users to cryoEM, cryoCLEM, and cryoFIB-SEM technologies and auxiliary equipment, including assistance and troubleshooting in sample preparation.
  • Helping with the organisation and teaching of electron microscopy courses for the EMBL IC user community.

You have

  • PhD or equivalent experience in the life sciences, physics, engineering or related disciplines.
  • Extensive experience in operating cryogenic transmission electron microscopes.
  • Extensive experience in cryoET sample preparation and image processing, including cellular tomography and subtomogram averaging analysis.
  • Basic cell biology skills.
  • Strong motivation to support and train users.
  • Excellent communication and organisation skills.
  • Fluency in English.
You might also have

  • Experience in operating cryoFIB milling devices for preparation of cellular lamellae.
  • Experience in cryogenic correlative light and electron microscopy (cryoCLEM).
  • Experience in cryoFIB-SEM methods for volume imaging.
