For the Institute of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry we are looking for an

Postdoctoral Researcher - Analytical Chemistry of Battery Materials - X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (M/F/d)

The position is part of the POLiS Cluster of Excellence (), which investigates new battery materials and technology concepts for efficient and sustainable storage of electrical energy.

The cluster aims to develop electrode materials and electrolytes that enable sustainable systems based on sodium, magnesium, calcium, aluminium and chlorine ions.

The project aims to develop advanced analytical methods for battery material characterization and experiments will be conducted at the Institute of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry at Ulm University ()


Your profile:


  • Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in Analytical Chemistry
  • Experience in quantitative analysis using Xray fluorescence spectrometry, additional experience in battery research is an advantage
  • Ability to plan and carry out complex experimental approaches
  • Proven expertise through relevant publications in peerreviewed journals
  • Fluency in written and spoken English additional knowledge of German is an advantage

Your responsibilities:


  • As a postdoctoral researcher, your main focus will be on the development of Xray fluorescence spectrometry methods that can be used for element quantification and/or imaging in new battery materials
  • You will establish TXRF for element quantification in next generation battery materials.
  • You will develop laboratorybased μXRF methods for elemental distribution analysis.
  • You will also combine FIB-SEM and μXRF for spatially resolved elemental analysis.
  • You will evaluate the potential of laboratorybased GIXRF for noninvasive interface studies.
  • In addition, you'll supervise students and interns.
