Project description

ACTIN is an international project involving the University of Konstanz, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the University of Strasbourg, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, the University of Geneva, Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, and the NGOs Roscommon in Ireland, Solidarity now in Greece, and Fundacja Wspierania Kultury I Jezyka Polskiego Im.

The aim of the project is to support and reinforce the integration and inclusion of migrant children and adolescents in education and by extension in the society by developing, implementing, and evaluating language and language & content learning activities within schools and informal educational activities within and outside schools.

The researcher will develop, implement and evaluate cultural awareness activities and language learning activities involving migrant children/adolescents/families and locals.

Activities to be developed capitalize on two existing informal education programs at the University of Geneva (Solidarity cafés and Uni-R) and on current research conducted by members of the ACTIN project on pedagogical translanguaging.

Working languages are English and French.

Your Responsibilities

  • Write a description of the Solidarity cafés and Uni-R and create an online manual
  • Evaluate the Solidarity cafés and Uni-R and collaborate with the project partners to adapt the evaluation protocols
  • Develop a parents' network within the Solidarity cafés
  • Develop knowhow about how to setup partnerships with key local and international institutions
  • Collaborate with partners, transfer knowledge to them, and support them in the organization of Solidarity cafés and Uni-R programs
  • Collaborate with the consortium on the development of protocols for pedagogical translanguaging
  • Potentially collect data on pedagogical translanguaging and share knowledge on their evaluation
Your Competencies

  • BA in psychology, education, speech therapy or related discipline
  • Experience with migrants, including forced migrants
  • Experience in project development/management
  • Excellent language and communication skills in French and English
  • Excellent academic writing skills
  • MA, MSc or equivalent degree in Psychology, Education, Social work, Speech & Language Therapy or related discipline (desirable)
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods (desirable)
  • Knowledge of the migration context in Geneva (desirable)
  • Experience with Solidarity cafés and Uni-R (desirable)
  • Experience with French teaching to migrants/forced migrants (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Arabic or Farsi (desirable)
