PHD AT THE BMW GROUP.
We, the BMW Group, offer you an interesting and varied Ph.
D. program in the area of Artificial Intelligence for Safety-Constrained Explainable End-to-End Autonomous Driving.

Typically, Autonomous Driving systems are modularly designed, while using human-interpretable interfaces between the different modules. However, this leads to a loss of information and cascading of errors. In contrast, End-to-End systems, holistically trained, help mitigating this issue.

Research on End-to-End models, together with important aspects for industrialization such as explainability or safety constraints are the focus of the proposed work.

What awaits you?

Research on stateoftheart Machine Learning methods in EndtoEnd models for Autonomous Driving.
Design of network topologies to embed safety constraints while enabling a high degree of explainability, using multiple sensor modalities as input, such as cameras and radars.
Benchmarking of the generated models on publicly available research datasets as well as on a largescale, multimodal BMW proprietary dataset.
Chance to deploy the models on a specialized SoC for invehicle tests.
Working in an experienced team of software developers and Machine Learning engineers at the Autonomous Driving Campus in Unterschleißheim.

What should you bring along?

You have successfully completed a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence, or in a related field.
You have a strong background in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Low Level Sensor Fusion, and/or explainable models. Previous publications in top conferences are a plus.
You have very good programming skills in PyTorch / TensorFlow, and you worked with modern programming environment tools such as Docker and Git.
You can solve problems independently while sharing ideas and working in a team.
You have very good English and communication skills. Knowledge of German is a plus.
