Master Thesis:
Development of a Bistable Shape Memory Folding Actuator

Organisationseinheit:

Institut für Mikrostrukturtechnik (IMT)

Ihre Aufgaben:

A large folding angle is critical for high configuration complexity and reliable latching of the structure.

Since the folding angle is limited in conventional bidirectional SMA actuator design, in this work a novel SMA folding actuator with a bistable mechanical folding support will be developed and investigated.

First, a mechanical arrangement consisting of a SMA snapping mechanism and a SMA folding actuator will be designed for Joule heating.

Subsequently, these components will be fabricated using state-of-the-art microfabrication technology and 3D printing, and the SMA folding actuator will be shape-set.

Finally, a characterization setup will be built to determine the mechanical and electrical performance of the novel actuator.

The thesis can be written in German or English.
