Role Overview

We are looking for:

A Raw Material Buyer who will report to the Global Procurement Manager for Composite Materials.


We count on you for:

The key objective for this role is to secure supply, manage risk and create value through active management of a portfolio of raw materials MEUR), including, but not limited to:

  • Drive limited scale continuous improvement projects within EMEA to improve the overall performance of the function
  • Support Senior Category Managers as needed and a part of on the job training/ development
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and identify opportunities for improvement and proactively evaluate potential business opportunities to match supplier capabilities with business partner needs.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with Solvay's suppliers as well as interact with senior management and external personnel to coordinate efforts and resolve supplier issues.
  • Take ownership of the budgeting and forecasting process for assigned commodities, including cost drivers, trends, and supply risk assessments.

  • Sorts through complex issues, identifies alternatives and makes recommendations. Integrates information from multiple sources, assesses and communicates it accurately.

  • This is considered a Strategic Procurement role and DOES NOT include issuing and tracking Purchase Orders (which is managed at plant level).

  • Performance objectives are Cost (saving impacting P&L)

Cash and beyond:
Portfolio Management, Contracting, Consolidation, Sustainability, E-auction.


You will bring:


  • 57 years' experience in Sourcing procurement activities in an international environment.
  • A bachelor Degree in Chemistry, Economics, Business, Supply Chain or related field; MBA is a plus.
  • An accomplished negotiator with demonstrated success in situations where suppliers may possess greater leverage.
  • Consistent track record to balance multiple projects/responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities as well as differing priorities with internal stakeholders.
  • Strong performer obsessed with interaction & influence at all levels internally and with suppliers.
  • A selfstarter /High level of autonomy/proactive.
  • Good process and analytical skills to understand market trends & raw materials.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strategic and analytical skills.
  • Alignment with Solvay values/behaviors.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, experience with esourcing tools and SAP is preferred.
  • Experience sourcing Chemicals is preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication & presentation skills.
