QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education, or another related field preferred;
  • Related experience and/or training that includes academic advisement, academic placement, financial aid, and the administration of military and VA educational benefits preferred;
  • Experience working with and advising veterans in an educational setting preferred;
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the sociological background of Veterans;
  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to Veterans in higher education;
  • Previous supervisory experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population;
  • Skilled in developing and delivering reports and presentations;
  • High level of independent judgment, initiate, discretion, collegiality, integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and attention to detail;
  • Strong data gathering, data analysis, problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads, or public/student contact;
  • Ability to establish credibility and confidence with stakeholders;
  • Strong initiative to promote student success;
  • Flexibility and creativity in problem solving;
  • Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the College;

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides college wide leadership in developing, planning, and implementing programs and services to increase military and Veteran enrollment, persistence, and retention at Indian River State College;
  • Responsible for Indian River State College's continued compliancy with all Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense (DoD) education programs and remain current with regulatory changes;
  • Monitor IRSC's practices and procedures to ensure continued compliance with state and federal regulations;
  • Oversees the VA Work Study Program;
  • Organize and manage military & Veteran events;
  • Responsible for the direction, and execution of the daily operations of the Center of Excellence for Veterans Student Success (CEVSS);
  • Serves in a highly collaborative role across student success departments in an effort to provide vision, expertise, and guidance to transitioning military and retentionrelated programs.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The primary duty of the Military & Veterans Services Coordinator is to direct and implement programs and services for military-affiliated students at Indian River State College and leads efforts to develop and establish tools to analyze the impacts of programming and services on retention.

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops and leads the vision, mission, goals, programs, services, and budget of the department;
  • Collaboratively partners with other departments on campus to promote a Veteranfriendly campus; Ensures eligible and prospective militaryaffiliated students are informed about their benefits and services available to them both on and offcampus;
  • Implement procedures and guidelines to ensure processes are in accordance with current federal and state regulations as they relate to military and VA educational assistance;
  • Serves as the primary VA School Certifying Official responsible for IRSC's continued approval to receive GI Bill funding;
  • Select, train, and provide daytoday lead work direction to staff; assign and monitor work for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with federal, state, and department requirements;
  • Remains knowledgeable about proposed and enacted state and federal legislation which affects Veterans' education programs by maintaining membership in professional organizations and participating in national and regional conferences;
  • Ensures successful VA and Florida State Approving Agency audits;
  • Serve as IRSC's liaison in meetings with military and Veteran support groups as well as with community officials regarding programs and support operations for outreach and IRSC initiatives;
  • Serves on IRSC committees as appointed;
  • Provide leadership, direction, coordination, and analytical interpretation in support of College and department policy formulation and decisionmaking relating to military and Veteran student success; Provide mentorship and leadership to department personnel including adequate training and professional development;
