Position:
PhD Student in Genomics / Transcriptomics of Blood and Brain Cancers**
Department: DKTK partner site Essen/Düsseldorf - Cancer Bioinformatics and Multiomics

Code number:

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

Together with university partners at seven renowned partner sites, we have established the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK).

For the newly established Junior Research Group "Cancer Bioinformatics and Multiomics" of Dr.

David Koppstein at the DKTK partner site Essen / Düsseldorf, we are looking for a PhD student for exciting projects in genomics and transcriptomics of blood and brain cancers using high-throughput sequencing methods.

Job description:

The Koppstein group is a new international team embedded within the Department of Child Oncology, Hematology and Immunology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf.

We study transcriptional dysregulation in different cancers in which transcriptional processes are perturbed, including U1-mutated SHH medulloblastoma, spliceosome-upregulated subtypes of CLL, and RUNX1A-perturbed myeloid leukemia.

Further, we support clinical diagnostics and discovery of structural variants and CNVs from patient cohorts. We employ state-of-the-art long read and single-cell approaches and develop computational and statistical methods to analyze the resulting data.

We work closely at the interface of genomic technology in the wet lab and bioinformatic methods in the dry lab.

Requirements:

Team players who are comfortable in networking across a wide range of disciplines are particularly welcome. Fluency in English (at least B2 level) is required, German is desirable.

To apply, please send a cover letter including a research statement, CV, university diploma transcripts and contact details of at least two academic referees.

We offer:
