In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT offers the opportunity to write a thesis.
Additive manufacturing processes such as Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) allow near-net-shape production of components with increased functional integration and reduced material usage.
Additive manufacturing is therefore considered to be of central importance in terms of increasing the sustainability of future product developments and production chains.
In contrast to conventional manufacturing processes, the tool-free production of components promises advantages not only in terms of the resulting economy, but also ecology.
As part of the thesis, a methodology for evaluating the ecological impact of various additive manufacturing processes is to be developed.
What you will do
Research on the state of the art of ecological assessment and current additive manufacturing processes
Development of an evaluation scheme and comparison of key figures for additive manufacturing processes
Comparison of the ecological effects compared to conventional processes
Evaluation and derivation of recommendations for action
Documentation of the results
What you bring to the table
You are studying a technical or scientific degree program (e.g. mechanical engineering, materials science, physics)
Great commitment, creativity and an independent and reliable way of working
Good knowledge in German
