The Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Natural Sciences I - Biosciences, Institute of

Pharmacy, has a vacancy for a temporary position until at the earliest possible date:_PhD student position (f/m/d) in Metabolic Engineering of Microbes

in part-time (50%).

Remuneration is applied up to pay group 13 TV-L, depending on the assignment of duties and fulfilment of

personal requirements.


Work assignments:

  • Development of an industrial production strain of phenylpropanoids
  • Conducting research in the field of metabolic engineering of microorganisms for the synthesis of phe
- nylpropanoids as precursor molecules for high-value biotechnological products

  • Development and characterization of microbial production strains using various molecular biological and
microbiological methods (e.g. CRISPR/Cas "knock in")

  • Optimization of recombinant enzyme cascades by _in vitro_ kinetics
  • Chemical characterization of synthesis products (HPLC, NMR)
  • Writing scientific reports/publications as part of the research project
  • The opportunity for a doctoral thesis is given.

Qualifications:

  • Scientific degree (Master) in biochemistry or biotechnology or comparable courses of education
  • Good knowledge of molecular biology (PCR, cloning, mutagenesis, etc.)
  • Good practical skills in the biochemical characterization of enzymes
  • Wellfound knowledge in the field of nucleic acid and protein analysis
  • Good knowledge in the cultivation of microorganisms (bacteria and/or yeasts)
  • Good theoretical and practical skills in analytical methods such as gel electrophoresis, spectroscopy, liquid
chromatography, etc. are desirable

  • Basic knowledge of metabolic engineering is an advantage
  • Ability to work in a team, flexibility, selforganization and readiness for scientific exchange
  • Very good English language skills, experience with MS Office and data processing programs (Origin, etc.)
