In order to support the Products Policy and Architecture, Airbus Helicopters is looking for a

Internship in Structural Dynamics for Helicopter Future Projects (d/f/m):

-
Location:_Donauwörth _**:

-
Start:_As soon as possible _**:

-
Duration:_6 months _**:

Your location:

At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product.

Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield.

Your benefits:

  • Attractive salary and worklife balance with a 35hour week (flexitime).
  • A final thesis is possible after consultation with the department.
  • Mobile working after agreement with the department.
  • Traveling overseas or within Germany (team events) is possible after consultation and agreement from the department.
  • International environment with the opportunity to network globally.
  • Work with modern/diversified technologies.
  • At Airbus, we see you as a valuable team member and you are not hired to brew coffee, instead you are in close contact with the interfaces and are part of our weekly team meetings.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Generation Airbus Community to expand your own network.

Your tasks and responsibilities:

The student will address the problematic of aerostructural weight optimization of wings, in a future high speed rotorcraft (compound, tilt-rotor aircraft) context.

The goal is to develop a parametric structural optimization model of lifting parts for weight estimation, based on existing in-house code, or using external models.

In particular, the internship will focus on:

Cantilever wings:

  • Write an analytical function that reproduces an existing literature methodology for tiltrotor wing weight computation based on different structural natural frequencies target. Evaluate the results on existing known wings
  • Continue to further develop a inhouse parametric wing finite element model. Perform a structural optimization with it, and compare it to the former analytical model / existing wings.

Box-wings:

  • Extend these methodologies to boxwing configurations, with the experience from Airbus Helicopters' Racer rotorcraft.

These model developments will eventually allow to perform meaningful new multidisciplinary analysis and optimization scenarios for future high speed rotorcraft in the Future Projects team.

A strong knowledge on materials, structural mechanics is mandatory for this position. A prior knowledge of Matlab/Python coding skills is recommended.

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within Air & Space technology (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of structure design and stress, and especially FEM (Finite Element Modelization).
  • Knowledge of Matlab/Python coding
  • Knowledge of helicopter architecture
  • Language skills: German fluent, English fluent
