The Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine at Dresden University of Technology covers the entire spectrum of medical education.

Currently, more than 2,500 students are taught at the highest level in the study programs Medicine, Dentistry and Model Study Program in Human Medicine as well as the Bachelor's Program in Midwifery and the Master's Programs in Public Health and Medical Radiation Sciences.

Research at the Faculty of Medicine focuses on the profile areas of mechanisms of cell degeneration and regeneration as the basis of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, diagnosis and therapy of malignant diseases, and public health/care research.

With its performance in third-party funding and publication activities, the Faculty of Medicine belongs to the top group of European research institutions.

The faculty administration of the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden plays a decisive role in the implementation of the tasks in research and teaching of the University Medicine Dresden.

PhD Student position (f/m/x):


in the group of Dr. Tiago C. Alves at the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine
This part-time-position is limited for 36 months.


Applications are invited for a PhD student position in our group to study the metabolic programming of pancreas progenitors for the generation of functional ß-cells.

Our group is interested in the quantitative analysis of metabolism, its regulation and impact on the function of pancreatic beta-cells.

In this particular project, the student will be involved in the characterization of metabolic and genetic mechanisms linking cellular metabolism in embryonic pancreatic progenitors with self-renewal and commitment to differentiation.

Your profile:


  • Applicants will be expected to have an excellent master degree ) in biochemistry or related disciplines, strong lab skills, independent spirit and a good command of the English language
  • Prior knowledge of bioinformatics analysis (e.g., R, Python) is advantageous but not obligatory
