The Department of Ecology at the School of Biology/Chemistry is seeking to appoint aResearch Assistant (M/F/d)
(salary grade E 13 TV-L, 65%):
to commence work at the earliest possible date. The position is limited for three years.
Your Duties:
Participate in the Volkswagen Foundation-funded research project:_ "Identifying the factors that determine the robustness of bacterial cross-feeding networks to ecological disturbance"_
- Synthetic generation of different metabolic interaction networks by preparing bacterial mutants
- Quantify amino acid production rates using LC-MS/MS
- Perform coculture experiments with different bacterial strains
- Comparative analysis of properties of different interaction networks (stability, growth, etc.)
- Work together with collaboration partner in Israel (Jonathan Friedman, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel) and other group members
Requirements:
- Completed degree (M.Sc. or comparable) in biology or a related field
- Solid knowledge in molecular biological methods (CrispR/Cas, cloning)
- Practical experience in microbiological techniques
- Excellent command in written and spoken English
- Strong motivation and curiosity
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Structured and independent way of working
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience in the analysis of networks
- Ability to develop and analyse theoretical models is a plus
- Sound knowledge of ecological and evolutionary theory
- Familiarity with quantitative working methods and statistical analysis procedures
- An excellent university degree
