Duties:


  • Responsible for performing a variety of safety and occupational health/industrial hygiene duties in support of the Europe District's Safety and Occupational Health Office.
  • Provide occupational safety and industrial hygiene support for employees engaged in a variety of engineering and construction activities.
  • Plans, coordinates, administers and provides professional expertise for Europe District's industrial hygiene program
  • Evaluates safety/industrial hygiene program accomplishments periodically to coordinate the program effectively and to determine the need for program improvements or changes.
  • Conducts periodic surveys of working conditions to assess the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures in order to determine the effectiveness of existing control measures and to ensure compliance with applicable safety and health regulations.
  • Develops a sampling and monitoring plan for the Districts to establish baseline data and to ensure that continued monitoring of known hazards is conducted as required.
  • Responds to employee complaints and investigates to substantiate or refute the complaint.
  • Ensures that equipment is in proper working order and calibrated for use.
  • Conducts inspections and surveys of District operations to identify actual or potential workplace hazards.
  • Conducts oversight surveys of Corps of Engineers and contractor IH and safety programs

  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain a favorably adjudicated Department of Defense SECRET security clearance.
  • As a condition of employment the incumbent must participate in the division medical surveillance program. Mandatory preplacement, periodic and pretermination of employment examination of the type and extent set forth in 29 CFR
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid US tourist and Official passport.

Basic Requirements:

The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
  • A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
  • Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a spacerequired basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation , the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI and DoDM
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a spacerequired basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation , then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI and DoDM
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a spaceavailable and reimbursable basis only.
