In order to support the Telecom & Navigation Processing department, Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a


Master thesis on Deep Learning-based Wireless Communication on Telecom Satellites (d/f/m):


Your location:

Our site is just a stone's throw away from Munich, the beautiful capital of Bavaria.

Your exciting topic:


The increase in use of the telecommunication spectrum, as in massive space constellations and aircraft population, render reliable and high-speed communication a challenge for inter-satellite and satellite-to-earth communication.

To utilize the occupied wireless channel to its optimal capacity, next generation AI-powered communication systems prove themselves superior to conventional, mathematically derived, communication systems, and pose high potential in future missions.

Your task will be to design and adapt the machine-learning models for satellite-related communication by incorporating domain knowledge into the neural network model, e.g., to make it dynamically respond to spurious channel changes.

Furthermore, preparation for a physical over-the-air demonstration by solving channel estimation and synchronization is necessary.


The following phases are proposed:

  • Modelling neural networks for adaptive link coding & modulation tackling spurious channel changes and/or interference
  • Cooperative harmonized communication with intrinsic interference mitigation
  • Implementing channel estimation, equalization, and synchronization procedures
  • Goal: Demonstrating the concept on a SDR platform

Qualifications:


  • Enrolled full time student within Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar field of study
  • Background in information theory and signal processing
  • Embedded programming skills (C, C++)
  • DNN modeling skills (Tensorflow, PyTorch, Matlab)
  • Fluent English is mandatory; French or German would be an asset
  • You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently
This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
