As a underwriter for MENA (Middle East/North Africa) markets, you will be part of our experienced client market team supporting our property clients in over 10 different fast-growing markets.


Your area of responsibility will comprise reinsuring the property treaty book as well as actively managing client relationships in the North African markets as their main point of contact across different lines of business.

This combined role allows you to embrace both strong technical underwriting skills and a client-centric approach characterised by client interactions on a daily basis.

Excellent service and innovative solutions are key for our clients. We serve their needs together with MENA Client Management and other stakeholders like the Global Consulting Unit. We also act as sparring partners, jointly rethink coverages and structures, and develop new products.

Your job

In your role as junior client underwriter, you will be in charge of the following areas of responsibility:


  • Underwriting a broad variety of proportional and non-proportional reinsurance treaties both for complex and more traditional reinsurance solutions with guidance from your senior and experienced underwriters
  • Performing risk assessment, (NatCat) modelling, and pricing for different kinds of treaty structures for property and engineering business including special acceptances
  • Analysing and evaluating coverage and wording of contractual documents and ensuring compliance with all guidelines, internal rules and authorities
  • Handling the full process of underwriting and monitoring the existing treaty business within your defined responsibilities
  • Taking over the
    Client Management Function for selected North African markets with the support of the MENA Client Management Team
  • Being the first point of contact for the clients and actively managing the client relationship in close collaboration with the whole Client Team
  • Acquiring and displaying a deep understanding of your client's UW strategy, portfolios, steering measures, performance, business development and RI buying behaviour
  • Driving increasingly independently negotiations with customers and reinsurance brokers and orchestrating internal stakeholders and decisionmakers
  • Expanding existing client relationships and leveraging new business potential
  • Assuming responsibility for
    selected overarching topics and business strategy
  • Shape the line of business, market and client strategies as part of the underwriting and client team
  • Driving emerging topics such as climate change, ESG, and shock inflation as well as taking ownership for underwriting excellence topics
  • Contributing to cocreation of new insurance or data analytics solutions together with a broader APA client team and other internal stakeholders
  • Participating in divisional and crossdivisional initiatives and projects

Profile:


  • First experience in underwriting and pricing of property treaty business with indepth knowledge of guidelines, tools and processes

University degree in law, business studies/economics, mathematics or the like and/or first professional experience in quantitative or law-related field (e.g. consulting, primary insurance, NatCat modelling, law firm) and commitment to building up relevant knowledge

  • Strong analytical as well as communication and intercultural skills
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of French is an advantage
  • Pronounced ability to work both independently and in a team, knowledgesharing culture
  • High level of dedication, client
- and solution-orientation, "can do" attitude

  • Willingness to travel
