The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society.

The school offers master's programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research.

We are looking for
6 Teaching Assistants (TA) and
1 TA Coordinator for the lecture on "
Statistics I: Inference and Regression" at the Hertie School.


Your tasks:

  • Prepare and teach two weekly 90minute labs, for 12 weeks, in person or online, depending on course needs;
  • Attend and support one of the weekly Statistics I lectures;
  • Student support, of which at least 60 weekly minutes should be regular office hours;
  • Provide grading support and proctoring of exams and assignments for the instructor and assist with the development of the assignments themselves.
  • For TA coordinators: Coordination of all the labs and Exam wrapup and additional tasks of TA coordinator.

Your profile:

  • Strong background in applied statistics (students at the PhD‐level);
  • Extensive experience with the R statistical environment;
  • Excellent pedagogical and communication skills (i.e., ability to explain key concepts in an intuitive manner for students with limited prior exposure to quantitative material).
  • Any previous teaching experience is highly valued.

All contracts are issued for the duration of the Fall 2024 semester (01 August to 31 January).

The total workload for a regular TA will be 173 hours (average of 6.7 hours per week) over the 6-month contract; The total workload for a TA coordinator will be 303 hours (average of 11.7 hours per week) over the 6-month contract.


Important:
The actual weekly workload can vary over the semester and will be agreed upon with the supervisor. The teaching period runs from early September to early December.
