In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT at RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for basic and contract research in the field of laser technology, is offering the opportunity to write a thesis in the field of "Application Development" on the topic of "Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) additive manufacturing processes".


What you will do

  • Literature research on the state of the art
  • Planning and execution of tests to increase the buildup rate using LPBF on the basis of the alloy AlSi10Mg
  • Evaluation of the test specimens with regard to relative material density, microstructure, hardness and mechanical properties and correlation of the results with the LPBF process control
  • Written documentation and elaboration of the results

What you bring to the table

  • You are studying an engineering degree program (e.g. mechanical engineering, materials engineering, materials science) and have basic knowledge of additive manufacturing processes
