Analytical Specialist (Analytical Chemist) in Analytical Operations


Within the Analytical Operations department, we have an exciting opportunity for a Site Analytical Specialist (Analytical Chemist) (M/F/d) to be located in Stade, Germany.


This role will focus across multiple businesses and manufacturing facilities to provide analytical technical expertise, implement most effective technology and improve analytical system performance in various Environmental and Quality Control Laboratories at the Dow Stade site.


Local and global team work with manufacturing and research colleagues and the quality function of the businesses is an important part of the job.


Job definition and responsibilities:

  • Technical support for the laboratory staff in the implementation and operation of many types of analytical instrumentation such as: chromatography, spectroscopy, titration and inorganic elemental analysis.
  • Be the primary analytical technical link to the operating facilities/business, and a technical mentor/coach for the lab teams on site.
  • Define and lead continuous improvement opportunities to enhance laboratory safety, reliability and productivity. Ensure the compliance of the various analytical labs at the Stade site with EH&S, security and business conduct guidelines and regulations
  • Advance and improve lab capabilities and analytical technologies to support business goals and milestones. Contribute to the development of analytical methods based on business requirements
  • Manage capital projects for the implementation and replacement of analytical instrumentation
  • Manage the validation and qualification activities required to support the implementation of analytical equipment
  • Technology awareness for the area via connections with equipment suppliers and Dow analytical laboratories in EMEA and globally. Network locally and globally with other technical personnel to stay current with analytical and process technologies and leverage technical solutions

Job requirements:

  • A PhD or experienced MSc in (applied) chemistry with a strong background in and passion for analytical chemistry
  • Practical experience and breadth of knowledge in analytical chemistry and core analytical technologies (e.g. chromatographic techniques such as GC and LC; titration techniques; spectroscopic techniques such as XRF, IR, and UV/Vis)
  • A solid knowledge in organic and inorganic chemistry
  • Initiative and leadership in project management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and presenting in English and German
