A major key to success in facing climate change and creating more resilient supply chains is the transformation of feedstocks from fossil resources to renewable raw materials.

Led by the Hamburg University of Technology, the CRC 1615 is developing processes and reactors that respond flexibly to the fluctuating properties of renewable raw materials, thus enabling self-adapting, more resilient process engineering

Project B01:

Materials for SMART reactors:

Thermodynamic and kinetic modelling of responsive materialsThe project focuses on the development of molecular thermodynamic and kinetic models describing the behaviour of stimuli-responsive materials.

The ultimate goals are to provide comprehensive insights and to set the groundwork for establishing a digital twin simulator for other projects in the CRC.

To achieve the goals a screening will be performed to understand the range of the stimuli-responsive behaviour. Extension of the existing models for multicomponent systems will also be performed. Modelling of swelling dynamics will then be addressed with chemical potential gradient based model, semi-empirical and lattice models.

YOUR TASKS

  • Scientific work within Collaborative Research Center (SFB Project B01, and networking with neighbor projects of the cluster
  • Development of kinetic models describing the behavior of stimuliresponsive materials.
  • Description of mass transfer phenomena in responsive gels
  • Handling of research data

YOUR PROFILE

  • Experience with thermodynamic models
  • Interest in theoretical work
  • Ability to cooperate with international researchers (esp. USA)
  • Readiness to contribute to educational tasks with undergraduate students

OUR OFFER

  • We offer the opportunity for scientific qualification with the goal of obtaining a doctoral degree (PhD).
  • Flexible and familyfriendly working conditions, 30 days of vacation per year
  • Special conditions in selected sports and fitness clubs
