  • The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its mandate is to provide scientific and technical services and to promote progress and reliability in metrology for the benefit of society, the economy and science.

Working field:


  • The precise realization and dissemination of the units is one of the core tasks of PTB. In a joint project with Department 2.5 (Semiconductor Physics and Magnetism) at PTB Braunschweig, the unit of magnetic flux density, the tesla, is to be determined more accurately and on a significantly broader field range compared to the previous method. For this purpose, the proton NMR method has to be replaced with measurements on hyperpolarized 3He. At our site in Berlin, the focus will initially be on the ultralow field range

Your tasks will include:

  • Independently carrying out measurement campaigns in the BMSR2 in close coordination with the colleagues in Braunschweig
  • Determining the statistical and systematic measurement uncertainties
  • Carrying out joint measurement campaigns at PTB's site in Braunschweig
  • Comparing the results with previous measurement methods and elaborating further improvement concepts (potentially based on completely new measurement methods, hyperpolarized 1H, alkali magnetometer)
  • Presenting and publishing our results

Requirements:


  • You have experience in NMR methods, in measurement methods in ultralow magnetic fields (SQUIDs, OPMs, flux gates) and their interpretation as well as with laserbased spin polarization techniques.
  • You have practical experience with experimental setups and data acquisition as well as programming for the purposes of data analysis.
  • You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills.
  • You have a good command of German and English, both spoken and written.
  • You are willing to travel within Germany and abroad within the scope of your assignment.
