We are looking for a
Lead Applications Scientist - Europe for our Food Applications team.


Primary responsibilities and expectations of this position include:

  • Lead the EU Food Applications team in developing, preparing, and shipping of sales samples and solutions for customers, distributors, and industry fairs
  • Support Head of Global Applications and Product Manager with trend analysis, Sample and Application performance metrics, internal communications, the creation of sales focused content, and team budget management

Essential skills required for this position:

  • Passion for food and flavors and a willingness to try new things with reliable and critical flavor evaluation skills
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity in a workday by effectively and comfortably dealing with change and shifting of goals based on commercial needs
  • Knowledge in a wide range of ingredients and formulations; familiarity with the evaluation of flavors and flavor enhancers
  • Good understanding of EUfood regulations and industry standards of quality, safe food
  • Experience developing customer, internal sales, and training product presentations that are supported by market & insights information
  • Through multisite collaboration, support the Innovation, Process Engineering, and Supply Chain teams in new product ideation, tastecritical raw material, and process changes
  • Collaborate with Global Technical Service and Applications teams to provide technical support, trainings, updated customer communications, and create Application Knowledge Libraries

Leadership responsibilities:


  • Assist junior team members in planning and executing projects timelines aligned with the needs of customers and commercial growth opportunities
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area for all team members in the EU Food Applications Lab with proper trainings, meetings, and documentation in conjunction with the Sample Coordinator
  • Manage lab stock through identification of suppliers of specialty ingredients, packaging, and purchases through local vendors while staying within budget

Interpersonal skills:


  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and manage relationships effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage your time effectively to lead and execute on multiple technical and sales projects
  • Reliable and driven to provide exceptional support to customers and internal teams

Education & experience:


  • BS or MS or equivalent in Food Science & Technology, Culinology, or related field
  • Experience mentoring junior team members is a plus
  • Experience in sensory evaluation methods preferred
  • Strong computer skills & experience using CRM software solutions and Microsoft 365 for reports, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, ease with decimals/percent conversions)

Physical Requirements:


  • Safe and effective use of all kitchen tools, cooking, and laboratory equipment
  • Exposure to frequent food tastings and smells including all food allergens
  • Able to lift up to 20 kg and work on your feet for extended stretches of time
  • Proficient in spoken and written English, proficiency in spoken and written German preferred
  • Willing to independently travel for key customer presentations and fairs (domestic and/or international), up to 10%
