IMT Master Thesis:
An investigation of the parameters of electrohydrodynamic printing: Electrospinning nanofibers

Organisationseinheit:

Institut für Mikrostrukturtechnik (IMT)

Ihre Aufgaben:

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our research team as a master's thesis student.

The thesis project will focus on unraveling the parameters for electrohydrodynamic (EHD) printing.

EHD printing is a cutting-edge technology that enables the deposition of precise patterns and structures by exploiting the interaction between electric fields and fluid flow.

The objective of this thesis is to investigate and optimize the key parameters that influence the printing process, leading to enhanced print quality and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review to understand the current state of the art in EHD printing.
  • Design and set up experiments to study the effects of various parameters on the printing process.
  • Perform systematic experiments to evaluate the influence of factors such as electric field strength, fluid viscosity, flow rate, nozzle geometry, and substrate properties on print quality.
  • Analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical methods and visualization techniques.
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop mathematical models or simulations to predict and optimize the printing process.
  • Document research findings, prepare progress reports, and present results to the research group.
  • Contribute to the overall research objectives and actively participate in team meetings and discussions.

Eintrittstermin:

by appointment

Ihre Qualifikation:

  • Currently pursuing a master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline).
  • Good academic record (marks); curious about various aspects of science.
  • Enthusiastic to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Independent thinker and team player.
  • In particular: a strong interest in Electrohydrodynamic processes such as electrospinning, fluid dynamics, and simulation methods.
  • Knowledge in synthesis of polymers and their fluid properties, handling of solid works, AutoCAD is desirable.
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in fluid mechanics, electro hydrodynamics, or related areas.
  • Experience with experimental techniques, such as designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in scientific software and programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for data analysis and modeling is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problemsolving skills and ability to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present research findings effectively.
  • Enthusiasm for research, willingness to learn new techniques, and a collaborative mindset.
