Tasks & responsibilities:

In your new role, you will join Human Genetics (HG), a unit that possesses expertise in statistical genetics, cellular genetics, machine learning and animal health genomics. You will work on the interface between Animal Health and Human Pharma R&D divisions. Your primary focus will be on developing genomic capabilities for therapeutic developments in cats and dogs by leveraging the team's establishment in human genomics. This involves identifying opportunities to systematically repurpose human therapeutic innovations for Animal Health; and enhance understanding of disease biology and disease models for Human Pharma.
You will employ and develop stateoftheart tools and algorithms for comparative genomics, mapping diseaseassociated loci, delivering results that facilitate our understanding of the functions of genes and genetic variation across humans, dogs, and cats.
You will develop specialized pipelines tailored for delivering molecular characterizations of diseases, with a focus on cardiometabolic, immunological and oncological diseases in cats and dogs. You will enhance data and capability sharing through FARIfication and contribute to establishing an animal health data foundation.
You will be a strong communicator in presenting projects and results to stakeholders and broad audiences from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements:

PhD. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related fields. Experience in veterinary biology will be advantageous. Alternatively master ́s degree with longterm professional experience in the related topics
Excellent learning agility for acquiring new skills and adapting to new environments as evidenced through past achievements in learning novel concepts. Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including but not limited to geneticists, biologists, pharmacologists, and veterinary scientists.
Expertise in comparative genomics and evolutionary biology. Proficiency in bioinformatics analysis of nextgeneration sequencing data across species. Competency in handling complex genomic datasets.
Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Python and R, and experience in using bioinformatics databases. Familiarity with sequence alignment tools. Ability to understand and select appropriate algorithms and software with an understanding of the underlying methods. Deep learning knowledge and proficiency are beneficial.
Outstanding communication and presentation abilities.
