Faculty VI Medicine comprises the fields of human medicine, medical physics and acoustics, neurosciences, psychology and health services research. Together with the four regional hospitals, Faculty VI forms the University Medicine Oldenburg. Furthermore, there is close cooperation with the University Medicine of the University of Groningen.

The Speech Intelligibility and Audiology Group at the Department of Medical Physics and Acoustics, University of Oldenburg, Germany, seeks
as soon as possible a motivated


Research associate (M/F/d) (75%, salary according to TV-L 13)

in the field of speech-on-speech masking and its impact on speech intelligibility and listening effort
The position is initially limited until June 30, 2026 and can be used to carry out a PhD project.

This project assesses speech intelligibility and listening effort in listening conditions with multiple talkers.

Experimental data are gathered and compared to predictions of existing perceptual models, and the models will be extended based in the research of this project.


In particular, the role of human binaural auditory processing, the impact of distracting talkers, and the capabilities of current speech enhancement algorithms will be analyzed.


Applicants for the position must hold an academic university degree (master or equivalent) in hearing technology & audiology, physics, engineering, or a related discipline.

Furthermore, applicants should have solid knowledge in at least two of the following fields:

- auditory perception and psychoacoustics
- design and conceptualization of speech intelligibility and listening effort measurements
- modelling of speech perception
- speech and audio processing
- computational auditory scene analyses.
